work life balance

A few months back I had an epiphany in the form of a hip operation.

From a normally vibrant on-the-go individual, I was instantly struck down and wound up flat on my back for weeks on end. The most difficult thing to face for someone used to being busy, was the thought of facing endless days watching tv soaps whilst listening to the outside world go on with it’s business.

I decided to turn this unfortunate imposition into an actual positive change in my life, by researching ways that I could enhance my career prospects and return to the workforce with new skills and wisdom. If you find yourself stuck with time on your hands, but fired by a desire for self-improvement, I have provided some enjoyable and viable ways to increase your career prospects and boost your marketability.

Let’s take a look at a few together:

1. Improve Yourself.

Knowledge is the bargaining chip that decides how much you are worth in the workforce. The more knowledge you bring to the table, the more leverage you possess. If you find yourself confined to the sheets for an extended period, it may be time to get out the computer and do a little online learning. There a number of options but my favourite one happens to be e-Coaches online tutor. An online tutor can provide lessons in business, language, IT, economics and so much more.

2. Build Relationships.

If all you have is time, a phone and a computer, a great way to build your career is by creating and building relationships with those that will be invaluable in raising the trajectory of your career path. LinkedIn, and similar networking sites, can be the perfect tool to interact with colleagues and peers whilst growing your contacts, cementing old relationships and forging new ones.

3. Writing.

With time on your hands and access to the internet you have all the tools you need to start getting your business message to the world, all while snuggled up warm in bed. Using the relationship building suggestions above utilise platforms such as LinkedIn as springboards to broadcast informative, engaging content relating to your field of expertise. Being viewed as an expert and dispensing valuable learning tools can increase referred custom and get your name out there.

4. Social Media and an Online Presence.

Perhaps you have a little business concern going at the moment and are considering taking it to the next level. Sitting up in bed is the perfect place to start getting some buzz going through sites such as Facebook, Twitter and the like.

A functional, well maintained website can present your company as a vibrant, high tech concern – all from the comfort of your bedroom. If your site is interactive, then you can respond to customers in real-time which can be strong advantage over your competition.

5. Become Tech Savvy.

There is no such thing as knowing too much about technology and every piece of information is valuable to both your daily life and your business life. Online learning institutions such as the one mentioned above are a wealth of resources to open up a world of knowledge and learning which can only increase your currency in the workforce.

If you find yourself bedridden for any length of time, consider it an opportunity.

You have been given the gift of time and you can spend it catching up on the Bold and the Beautiful, or you can turn it into the pivotal point in your life where you transformed your career, gained invaluable knowledge and set up a basis which allowed you to eventually conquer new worlds. Best of luck!
