Memphis, Tennessee-based nonprofit venture development organization Start Co. will be presenting 16 new startups at its Demo Day on 21 August at Orpheum Theater. These startups are the graduates of its intensive 14-week startup training and mentoring program – recognized by the Global Accelerator Network (GAN) – that will see these 16 graduating companies to present their business plans to over 750 investors, fellow entrepreneurs as well as community leaders from all over the Mid-South, as afar as St Louis and San Francisco, and even from Singapore.

The Honorable Edward B. Montgomery, dean of the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University, professor of economics, and former chief economist to the White House, will be the keynote speaker whose speech will touch on the importance of entrepreneurial activities as key for the future economic success of the country, and especially in communities such as Memphis.

Start Co. teams were guided by Start Co. managing director Mara Lewis and founder & CEO Eric Mathews. “I’m looking forward to seeing this cohort of early stage entrepreneurs take the stage at the Orpheum Theater to showcase their work and share their experiences from the Summer of Acceleration with the community,” shared Mathews. “Each year we invest time and energy to set the stage for the next year, and after more than seven years of hard work it’s gratifying that the startup community here in Memphis has been nationally recognized by CNN as one of the top 10 best places for founders to launch in the country.”
